Speaker bio:
General (Ret.) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan serves as the Chairman of Indonesia’s National Economic Council and Special Advisor to the President of the Republic of Indonesia. His career includes previous roles as Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs, Chief of Staff to the President, and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs.
Born on September 28, 1947, in Simargala, North Sumatra, Luhut graduated as the top cadet from Indonesia’s National Military Academy in 1970, dedicating much of his military career to the Army Special Forces. He has completed extensive military training both domestically and internationally, including in the United Kingdom, West Germany, and the United States throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Additionally, he holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from George Washington University.
In 2001, Luhut and his wife founded the DEL Institute of Technology and DEL High School in the remote village of Sitoluama, Laguboti District, Toba Regency, North Sumatra. These institutions have earned high national rankings and are renowned for their commitment to providing quality education to the next generation of Indonesians.
Luhut also possesses a wealth of experience in the private sector. In 2004, he cofounded PT Toba Sejahtra, a diversified company that remains active to this day in energy — spanning electricity generation and mining — as well as property development.
