Research

The China Institute for Development Planning at Tsinghua University (THU-CIDP), established on June 29th, is a research institute jointly initiated by Tsinghua University and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). On October 19th, 2018, THU-CIDP underwent restructuring so as to enhance its academic research and policy consultation.

As the first research center in China concentrating on development planning (e.g. the well-known Five-year Plan), THU-CIDP persists in a high-level, inclusive and forward-looking development prospect. Based on a comprehensive and strategic understanding of the national economic and social development, the institute conducts theoretical and practical research, and provides services such as policy consultation, pre-planning study, and professional trainings, etc. It strives on becoming a mix of academic institution, professional training center and thinking tank in the field of development strategy and planning, especially in the well-known Five-year Plan area.

Mission

Academic Study

• To study on major socio-economic      development issues and fundamental planning theories.

• To investigate theories, methodologies,      and techniques of development planning, and advance development planning      study as an academic discipline.

• To facilitate scientific, democratic      and legalistic planning process.

Policy Consultation

• To investigate important issues in national      socio-economic development, and propose constructive policy advices.

• To become a bridge between the      academia and practitioners, offering strategic consulting services to      assist central and local governments, enterprises and social organizations      on development strategy and planning.

Information Platform

• To develop and maintain      comprehensive database and information hub for economic and social      development to support the practice of development planning.

Talent Cultivation

• To foster the growth of      researchers, educators, and practitioners in the field of development      planning, and to explore possible approaches to promote the professionalization      of development planning practitioners.

International Cooperation

• To enhance international      exchanges and cooperation in the field of development planning.
