This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China Case Center of SPPM (CCCPPM).In order to promote the further development of the center, the China Case Center and the School of Public Policy & Management (SPPM) of Tsinghua University co-hosted a celebration at the lobby on the noon of August 27. Present at the occasion were professor Xuelan, the dean of SPPM, Zongchao Peng, Vice-dean of SPPM, professor Xiaoling Xu, supervisor from National MPA Education Steering Committee, Professor Anthony Saich , Director of Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation from Harvard Kennedy School, professor Arnold M. Howitt, Executive Director of Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation from Harvard Kennedy School, professor Dutch B. Leonard from Harvard Kennedy School & Harvard Business School etc. Over 100 participants, including all of SPPM’s top faculty members along with more than 80 instructors from 73 universities and colleges of China in the 2014 national training program attended the celebration.

How time flies! China Case Center for Public Policy & Management (CCCPPM) was set up on July 3rd, 2004 as a subsidiary of the School of Public Policy & Management (SPPM), Tsinghua University. But now the center has been the largest professional producer and repository of Chinese public administration case studies. More than 300 cases in Chinese have been developed in 14 areas, covering public policy, public economics, public strategic management, crisis management, NGO management and so on. A series of classical cases have been published by Tsinghua University Press.

Meanwhile, the case center promotes the use of case method teaching in MPA education in China. More than 40 English cases are used in courses of MID and IMPA programs of SPPM, in which students come from more than 60 countries. The center has good relation with Harvard University, Syracuse University and University of Washington for several years, with sharing beneficial experiences and research achievements in case teaching. SPPM and the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University signed an agreement on case sharing. At present, eight cases from our Chinese case collection were translated in English to be used in the class of the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. Moreover, the China Case Center have organized 8 national training programs from 2001 to 2014. More than 450 instructors from 123 universities and colleges in China participated in the training. Their feedbacks prove that the CCCPPM on case teaching is very valuable for faculty members of China to improve the overall quality on public policy education programs.

In the ceremony, Director Muling introduces Chinese Case Center and its work, highlights case writing standards and quality control processes, which will effectively promote the public administration education level. At the same time, she also took the opportunity to appreciate the help from the SPPM and Harvard Kennedy School making the past 10 years an amazing cooperation and getting great help. Later Dean Xuelan delivered a welcoming speech. He said, case teaching has an important influence not only for public management education, but also for promoting the development of China's reform. His speech inspired a wide range of interests and participant’s loud applause.
Afterwards, Professor Anthony Saich, Director of Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation from Harvard Kennedy School, professor Arnold M. Howitt, Executive Director of Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation from Harvard Kennedy School, professor Dutch B. Leonard from Harvard Kennedy School & Harvard Business School delivered speeches respectively . In their speeches, they all spoke highly of the achievements of the center for the past decade and expressed that case studies in English is helping more and more international students and scholars from abroad to learn and understand the experiences of China’s reform process. They hoped that the China Case Center will continuously achieve greater development.
In the relaxing and harmonious atmosphere, participants present in the ceremony took photos in memory of this unforgettable occasion. With a closing remark from Director Muling thanking for all the wonderful keynote speeches and calling up all faculties actively participate in the development of case teaching on the education area of public policy and management, the 2014 National MPA Faculty Seminar on Case Teaching successfully closed.
