The head of one of India’s most distinguished think thanks, Dr Pratap Bhanu Mehta paid a visit to Tsinghua SPPM to give a lecture entitled ‘Democracy, Legitimacy and Development’. He was hosted by Dr Zhang Yanbing from SPPM, and fmr Chinese Ambassador to India, Cheng Ruisheng. Dr Pratap showed how India with its representative government mechanism within a democratic political system is responding to the needs of the people and also the difficult challenges that confront the Indian government. Fmr Ambassador Cheng gave a commentary about his experience in India, the long friendship he has with India and also how India and China can learn from each other. SPPM’s Professor Cui Zhiyuan also added his comments by providing a historical perspective and the Chinese point of view. The meeting was attended by over 60 students from SPPM’s international student body with many questions asked from audience members about Sino-China relations and the future of both countries.
