Founded in 1911, Tsinghua University is one of the most prestigious universities in China, and is committed to the advancement and well-beings of the nation and the world through teaching, research and innovation. The School of Public Policy and Management (SPPM), Tsinghua University, was founded in 2000 and is the first graduate school of public administration in China.
The School’s mission is to become a world-class institution that actively engages in teaching, research, and consulting in global public affairs. Tsinghua SPPM is committed to not only train future generations of scholars and practitioners in public affairs with global vision and strong social commitment, but also constitute a global forum where critical challenges may be discussed, innovative ideas and wisdoms may be shared, and dialogues and collaboration may be fostered between China and the world to achieve lasting peace, prosperity, equity, and sustainability of the human kind.
Over the last eighteen years, Tsinghua SPPM has grown into a leading academic institution in China and has established extensive partnerships with international organizations and academic institutions around the world. The school has built a diverse, inter-disciplinary faculty, which currently consists of 61 faculty members working in the fields of public policy and governance, public management, NGO studies, and global governance. In their research, our faculty members have made significant impacts on both the intellectual development in many areas in public policy and management and the formulation and implementation of public policies in China.
The school currently offers four programs taught in Chinese including Master of Management, doctoral, MPA and joint bachelor’s degree programs, and six Master’s programs taught in English including MPA in International Development (MID), International MPA (IMPA), MPA in International Development and Governance (MIDG), Master of Public Policy for Sustainable Development Goals (MPP-SDG), MPA in Big data for Public and Global Governance (MPA-BDG), and IMPA in the Belt and Road Initiative (IMPA-BRI). By 2018, the school has graduated 206 PhDs, 731 master’s students, 2,943 MPA graduates, and 557 International students from 112 countries. The school also provides a large number of executive training programs to over 50,000 officials from central ministries and agencies, and local governments.
Tsinghua SPPM strives to build up a world-class think tank cluster in China. The school has established research centers with world-renowned think tanks including the Brookings Institution, and has co-initiated research centers with multiple central government agencies devoted to policy research in service economy, development and planning, science and technology policy, sustainable development goals, environmental governance, public-private partnership, rural studies, philanthropy, risk assessment and crisis management, and big data and e-governance.
