On Thursday April 30, the Brookings-Tsinghua Center for Public Policy (BTC) held a roundtable on the US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) at the Conference Room 302 of SPPM. Dean Xue Lan from SPPM gave the opening speech and Dr. Xiao Geng (director of BTC) chaired the roundtable.
This roundtable provided an invaluable opportunity for informal exchange of views.
Over 20 top Chinese experts and a group of U.S. Government officials led by John Norris, Deputy Assistant Secretary from the State Department and Eugene Huang, Policy Advisor from the Treasury Department, participated in the roundtable.
The roundtable focused on the structure and format of the S&ED which will have its first official meeting in summer 2009. Issues discussed under the S&ED have broadened to include: clean energy and climate change, general US-China relations, regional stability, international security, international development, the global financial crisis, sustainable global growth, trade and investment and financial system reform. Prof. Hu Angang, Qi Ye and Yu Qiao contributed their opinions and suggestions for the S&ED.
