As China’s role on the world stage becomes increasingly important, the education of its public policy makers has also attracted much attention both domestically and on an international level. At the UNU forum, Professor Xue Lan discussed this topic of preparing a new policy making generation for China. In addressing the changing public policy environment in China with its increasing demand for government transparency and accountability, Professor Xue discussed the need to create a learning government. Using the School of Public Policy and Management at Tsinghua University as a case study, he further discussed the importance of training in topics of general principles and policies, basic public administration knowledge and skills, and specific legislations and policy issues for public policy makers in all levels of the government. “In a globalized world today, China is hoping to make a contribution to the world by preparing future public leaders IN China and FOR the world.”
