On December 12, 2010, the School of Public Policy and Management at Tsinghua University and the Brookings-Tsinghua Center for Public Policy welcomed a diverse delegation of scholars to the “Workshop on Global Governance: Asia and the New World Order,” co-hosted with the Centre on Asia and Globalisation of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. The presenters of the S.T. Lee Project on Global Governance, Dr. Tikki Pang, Professor Kelley Lee, Dr. Navroz Dubash, and Professor Ann Florini, shared their findings in two key issue areas: global health governance and global energy governance. The panel discussion, moderated by SPPM Dean Xue Lan, was well-received by the audience. Tsinghua students enthusiastically exchanged views with and asked thoughtful questions of the panelists.
The S.T. Lee Project on Global Governance was launched in 2008 and is widely recognized as the leading Asia-based initiative addressing the growing crisis in global governance. Professor Ann Florini is the co-chair of the Project and the Director of the Centre on Asia and Globalisation at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. Key issues discussed at the Workshop included the institutional diversity of global health governance, economic versus energy governance mechanisms, the rise of Asia and dialogue among decision makers in Asia and the West. Ambassador Wu Jianmin, Former Ambassador to France and to the United Nations, spoke at the delegates’ opening dinner, where he emphasized the importance of peaceful international cooperation across sectors and pointed to what China has to offer to the world in terms of its culture, history, and peace-loving nature.
The Workshop continued through December 13, 2010, with a round of panels and interventions by scholars from Asia, North America, and Europe.
