October 17th, 2011 was the 7th annual International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. The school’s IMPA students, MID students and a few visiting scholars, with the cooperation and organization of the International Office, participated in the “2011 Global Poverty Reduction and Development Forum –Improving People’s Well-Being and Accelerating Sustainable Poverty Reduction”. The event was hosted by the State Council’s Poverty Alleviation Office and jointly organized by United Nations agencies in China.
The primary focus of the forum was on development challenges. In particular, the discussion focused on human development and poverty reduction, exploring alternate methods and means, and improving the quality of Chinese and international economic growth. Talks centered on goals such as promoting the improvement of people’s livelihoods and sustainable poverty reduction through international cooperation.
By participating in this event, students were able to better develop a global vision of public administration, deepen their understanding of economic development and poverty alleviation, and enrich their public policy and management knowledge. The forum laid down a good foundation for the entire semester’s theories and focus.
