On the afternoon of November 23rd, 2011, The Fudan Premium Fund of Management held a grand award-giving ceremony at the China Academy of Engineering. Dean of Tsinghua University’s School of Public Policy and Management, Professor Xue Lan was presented the award for his dedication and contribution to the research and practices of public administration. Tsinghua Party Secretary Hu Heping and Vice President Xie Weihe were also present at this ceremony.
Chairman of the 10th CPPCC National Committee and Chairman of the Fudan Management Awards Foundation Xu Kuangdi was at the ceremony to present the two awards to the recipients. Dean of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Zhou Ji was present to give the welcoming remarks of the ceremony on behalf of his academy. The other award recipient was Professor Li Shuzhou from Xian Jiaotong University’s School of Public Policy and Management’s Institute of Population and Development.
The Fudan Management Award Foundation was founded by Li Lanqing, an alumnus of Fudan University and one of the former members of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC, who used his payment for his written work to found the foundation in 2005. Every year, special committees congregate to select the winner of the award. The award hopes to forge a reputation as China’s “Nobel Prize” in public management in order to encourage wholehearted research and practice and improve China’s international status and academic influence. Since 2006, 17 management science, business administration, and public management scholars have been awarded for their outstanding contributions to their specific fields. This year’s awards ceremony focused on the field of public management, while next year’s awards will focus on management science and engineering.
This year’s award ceremony was organized by Fudan University and co-sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Academics from the Academy of Engineering and alumni and students from Tsinghua University, Renmin University, Beijing Normal University, Beijing Aerospace University, and various other universities were joined by some 300 guests from home and abroad to witness the ceremony.
Prof. Xue Lan, biography
Xue Lan, male, born in June 1959. Yangtze River Scholars Distinguished Professor of Ministry of Education Chair, Tsinghua University Professor, Ph.D and supervisor. He received his PhD from Carnegie Mellon University in Engineering and Public Policy and currently serves as Dean of Tsinghua University’s School of Public Policy and Management. He also holds the titles of part-time Vice President of the China Institute of Administrative Management, Vice President of the China Management Science Society, Vice Chairman of the National Steering Committee for MPA Education, and member of the State Emergency Management Group and the National Steering Committee of Scientific Research.
