On May 29, United Nations senior translator, Mr. CAO Guozhong visited SPPM for the Career Workshop Series. Mr. Cao advised an audience of around 20 SPPM international students for career development. The topic was “Starting from Tsinghua University”. Based on Tsinghua University’s motto, “Self-Discipline and Social Commitment”, he talked about how traditional Chinese culture and values apply to personal career development. In addition, he gave students practical suggestions from his years of work experience at the UN. The students raised many questions regarding how to find a way into big international organizations. SPPM’s Deputy Party Secretary and Associate Professor, XIE Jin, hosted this event.

Mr. CAO Guozhong studied in the English program from 1985 to 1989 at Beijing Foreign Studies University. From 1989 to 1991, he attended the United Nations Interpreter and Translator Training Class and was awarded a master's degree. After graduation, he worked in the field of international communication for nearly nine years. He was the consultant for Mr. LIU Qi, who previously held post as mayor of Beijing, to host the first Beijing Mayor International Entrepreneur Advisory Council. He has been a translator at the United Nations since March 2000. Starting in May 2013, he has been SPPM’s short-term visiting scholar.
