On July 4, 2014, the School of Public Policy and Management (SPPM) of Tsinghua University signed a memorandum with Dolby Laboratories, Inc. to establish a scholarship which will enable outstanding an Ph.D graduate to pursue post-doctoral studies overseas at the world’s leading universities and research centers and to secure teaching and research positions in China upon completion.

As China continues its focus on innovation, stronger expertise in encouraging innovation is crucial for future public policy and management professionals. The collaboration between SPPM and Dolby aims to facilitate the development of such expertise and, as a result, foster a stronger environment for innovation in China.
“Innovation is a must for China,” said Lan Xue, Dean of SPPM, Tsinghua University. “It requires effort from both the public and private sectors. It is very encouraging having Dolby, a global enterprise known for continuously delivering innovations over nearly 50 years, to support what our school and the Chinese government are advocating for.”
"Dolby has a long history of innovation, and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to work together with Tsinghua University to promote the continuing development of intellectual property,” said Mike Chao, Managing Director, Dolby Laboratories, Greater China. “Innovators need to have their ideas protected and developed, so that their inventions can benefit others. We share this vision with Tsinghua and are deeply committed to supporting innovation in China.”
After the agreement signing, Mr. Chao and other representatives of Dolby Laboratories also attended the 2014 Summer Commencement of SPPM, during which Mr. Chao delivered a speech.
