On the morning of Oct. 10th, Dr.Uri Rosenthal, Netherlands Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited the Center of Crisis Management and Research, and delivered a speech under the topic of “Crisis Management: How to deal with new threats?”.Prof. Xue Lan, Dean of SPPM moderated the speech. Prof. Peng Zongchao, Director of CCMR, and Dr. Dinghui, Dean Beijing Academy of Science and Technology presented at the speech as well. Over 60 students attended the lecture and had heated discussion with Dr.Uri Rosenthal after the speech.

In his speech, Dr. Uri Rosenthal said crisis management should tackle these crises by means of preventive policies, engaged preparedness, top-level decision-making in the hectic hours and days of acute threat, and distinct post-crisis measures. Spectacular new breakthroughs such as the developments in cyberspace go hand in hand with new threats. Political and corporate leaders should be resolute in safeguarding the positive prospects of these new developments while countering the potential threats.


Uri Rosenthal was the minister of Foreign Affairs (2010-2012),the Netherlands. Being a member of the Dutch Senate since 1999, he was elected as the chairman of the VVD Parliamentary Group in 2005, and became the leader of the opposition in the Senate from 2007 till 2010.
Uri Rosenthal was a professor of Political Science and Public Management, Erasmus University Rotterdam and Leiden University, and served as the dean of Netherlands School of Government. He was also the president of COT Institute for Safety, Security and Crisis Management (since 2008 an Aon Company) .
