On November 10th, the School of Public Policy and Management (SPPM) held the annual Festival of Mr. Right & “Mr. SPPM” in the grand auditorium, with a total of 13 students participating as contestants. As an annual Festival, “Mr. SPPM” attracts amazingly talented Chinese and international students of SPPM to participate and enjoy the wonderful performances.
To start off the event, the host Deputy Party Secretary of SPPM Xie Jin warmly welcomed all the participants and shared the story of “Mr. SPPM” Festival. An introductory film was broadcasted, showing the expectations of students and teachers of our school toward this event. Subsequently, the winner of 2015 “Mr. SPPM” Wei Lian sang a song and expressed best wishes to this year’s candidates.

SPPM MID program Japanese student Yoshinari sang a Chinese song called Tianhou, has impressed the audiences with his fluent Chinese. MIDG program student S.Y. Zougrana who came from Ghana shared a touching video of his lifelong mentor before performing his passionate traditional dance. Wearing the customs of Yi nationality, 2016 Master Student Li Chun sang a song called Don’t Be Afraid and showed his basketball skills on the stage. 2016 Ph. D candidate Wang Hongshuai sang the Chinese song of Starry Sky .

During the second segment, Siddhartha Kumar from India recited a poem and invited the international program manager Zheng Yi for a dance. The MPA student Zhang Nan sang a Chinese song Bus Station . Chen Yiming played guitar and sang Did somebody tell you . Another 2016 Ph. D candidate Lu Yan performed a Chinese rap song Laoshan Daoshi .

After Master Student Ma Xiangyu performed a passionate recitation The River All Red, MPA student Zhang Shenghao holding our host Leeny’s hand sang a touching Chinese song Kongbaige with his charming voice. MPA student Wang Shenhao played Paganini’s Capriccio on his violin. MPA student Zhang Lin sang a song What Do You Want Me To Do, impressing the audience with his beautiful voice. Last but not least, MPA student Li Jialong sang a song When That Day Comes and won a warm applause from the audience.

After all the contestants had performed, Professor Cheng Wenhao gave some tips on how to become ‘Mr. Right’ and generously shared gifts he brought for everyone, bringing the atmosphere to the highest point. Then, Professor Cheng started the lucky draw for the audience. Everybody could participate by scanning the WeChat code specially set up for the event.

Every contestant received 2 movie tickets. They were asked to turn their backs toward the audience and to randomly choose a girl from the audience to share the movie ticket with. Ultimately, Professor Cheng Wenhao and Associate Dean Meng Bo announced the result of the election and distributed the prizes. Finally, MPA student Zhang Lin was chosen as the “Mr. SPPM” of 2016.
