President of the Brookings Institution, Strobe Talbott, visited Tsinghua University on October 22nd. Tsinghua University Council Chair Hu Heping, held discussions with Mr. Talbott during his visit, together with Deputy Director of Tsinghua’s Office for International Cooperation and Exchanges Xia Guangzhi, Dean of Tsinghua’s School of Public Policy and Management (SPPM) Xue Lan, Associate Dean of the SPPM Meng Bo, and acting Director of the Brookings-Tsinghua Center for Public Policy Tao Ran.
During the meeting, Mr. Hu delivered his greetings on behalf of Tsinghua to the guests from the Brookings institution, and introduced Tsinghua’s development in student education, academic research and international cooperation. Hu stressed Tsinghua’s close relationship with the Brookings Institution, especially the Brookings-Tsinghua Center for Public Policy co-established by both parties, which provides a global platform for scholars and policy makers across China and the United States. Moreover, Hu expressed Tsinghua’s willingness to fully support the development of the Brookings-Tsinghua Center, and to strengthen bilateral cooperation, on the purpose of making the center one of the top-tier think tanks in China.
Mr. Talbott introduced Brookings’ international cooperation and the development of the Brookings-Tsinghua Center. He acknowledged the good relationship between Brookings and Tsinghua in various aspects, and expressed his hope to promote the development of the Brookings-Tsinghua Center, and to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation on scholar and student exchange programs.

Founded in October 2006, the Brookings-Tsinghua Center for Public Policy (BTC) is a partnership between the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. and China’s Tsinghua University. Based in Tsinghua’s School of Public Policy and Management, the BTC seeks to produce high quality and high impact policy research in areas of fundamental importance for China’s development and for U.S.-China relations. The BTC provides research by Chinese and American scholars on economic and social issues in China’s development, hosts visiting researchers, and holds seminars, panels and conferences that bring together leading policy experts and officials from China and abroad.
