On June 24th, Dr. Cheng Li, director of the John L. Thornton China Center at the Brookings Institution, and senior fellows from Brooking Institution visited Tsinghua University. President of Tsinghua University Chen Jining hosted the meeting, and exchanged his views on strengthening future bilateral cooperation with Brookings Institution. Associate dean of the School of Public Policy and Management Peng Zongchao attended the meeting.

In the meeting, Chen Jining welcomed the visit of Dr. Li on behalf of Tsinghua, and introduced Tsinghua’s global development strategy, educational methods for students, international cooperation on dual-master degree programs, and Tsinghua’s Schwarzman Scholars Program. Chen Jining expressed that Brookings Institution is one of the top global think-tanks, and the two institutions have been working closely over the past years, and that he hopes to deepen the bilateral cooperation, particularly on student internship programs and academic exchange, to benefit the friendship and communications of youth in both China and the United States, and to cultivate future leaders with global vision.
Cheng Li expressed the willingness of Brookings to strengthen cooperation with China, and stated that Tsinghua University is a significant partner of Brookings. The two institutions have co-established the Brookings- Tsinghua Center for Public Policy, and co-hosted many academic exchange and research programs. Brookings Institution hopes to explore cooperation on various fields of public policy research, and to deepen the bilateral relationship, to facilitate further development of think-tanks in China.
Founded in October 2006, the Brookings-Tsinghua Center for Public Policy (BTC) is a partnership between the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. and China’s Tsinghua University. Based in Tsinghua’s School of Public Policy and Management, the BTC seeks to produce high quality and high impact policy research in areas of fundamental importance for China’s development and for U.S.-China relations. The BTC provides research by Chinese and American scholars on economic and social issues in China’s development, hosts visiting researchers, and holds seminars, panels and conferences that bring together leading policy experts and officials from China and abroad.
