In the evening of September 17, the School of Public Policy and Management held an class opening meeting. The meeting was hosted by Peng Zongchao, Associated Dean, Xue Lan, Dean, Guo Yong, Party Secretary, Xie Jin, Associated Party Secretary, Wang Yahua, Director of the BA minor program, Lan Yuxin, head of the Student Affairs Office, Feng Ye, Director of the Academic Office, and all the freshmen of this program attended the meeting.

On behalf of the teachers and students of the School of Public Policy and Management, Dean Xue Lan warmly welcomed the arrival of the freshmen. He introduced the program’s background, analyzed the importance of learning public management knowledge and the necessity of launching the program. He pointed out that public management knowledge is an inevitable requirement for engaging in public affairs. Minor courses can not only stimulate and guide young students' interest in public management, but also cultivate their ability to manage public affairs. He sent a message to the students that they should systematically learn public management knowledge and make overall plans for the major and minor. At the same time, they should broaden their horizons, broaden their minds, set up aspirations, learn from in-field practice and make contributions to the development of the country.
As the director of the BA minor program and head teacher, Professor Wang Yahua introduced the academic requirements of the program and provided guiding suggestions for students' minor studies. He pointed out that "learning with specialization and teaching with strictness" is an important traditional Chinese education concept, emphasizing value-building and knowledge transmission, while modern education concept also emphasizes ability training on this basis. The trinity of modern education concept of "value shaping, knowledge imparting and ability training" is the guiding ideology of Tsinghua University's education and minor program design. I hope that the students will cherish the opportunity to participate in the minor program, and prosper in learning.
Associate Party Secretary Xie Jin introduced the management of the program. She gave a detailed introduction to the school-wide and university-wide student management system, and analyzed the relationship among teaching, scientific research and student work. It is suggested that students should work together, look to the future, keep their feet on the ground, earnestly fulfill their minor professional goals, and hand over a satisfactory answer sheet for life.
Jia Yiwei, from the School of Economics and Management, spoke on behalf of the freshmen of the minor class. He shared his learning plan for the new semester. By taking an example of his roommates who were down-to-earth, served their hometown, and started small, he expounded the reasons why students choose the minor in Public management. His speech expressed the expectations of students in different disciplines such as journalism, social science and engineering.
Finally, Associated Dean Peng Zongchao concluded that this program is a major attempt by the School of Public Policy and management to expand undergraduate education. This year, the School recruited BA minor students for the first time. This meeting was simple and warm, which was not only an opening meeting, but also a class opening ceremony. He hoped that the students could make history and become people who contribute to the society in the big family of the School of Public Policy and management.
Class Committee Election
Following the class opening ceremony, the first class meeting was held on October 15 and the class committee was elected. The class meeting was presided over by class counselor Zhang, jingwen. Xie Jin, Associated Party Secretary, Wang Yahua, Director of the minor program, and Zhang Xiuji, Deputy Head of the Student Affairs Office attended the meeting and gave speehes.
Xie Jin made a speech first. She emphasized the importance of the class committee, and hoped that the first cohort would organize activities together under the leadership of the class committee to unite the students and help their academic development. At the same time, she encouraged everyone to take part in the class committee election. Active participation in the class committee election is a manifestation of leadership. The experience of serving as a class cadre is also conducive to growth and success.
Finally, the class members nominated 13 students as candidates through mutual recommendation. After the election speech and democratic voting, the members of the first class committee were finally elected.
After the election, on behalf of the Student Affairs Office, Zhang Xiuji congratulated on the first class committee of the BA minor class. He said that the Student Affairs Office would pay attention to the construction and development of the class and serve everyone wholeheartedly, hoping that the students would take the class as an opportunity to lay a solid foundation for future learning and career development.

Professor Wang Yahua made a concluding speech. He pointed out that the school attaches great importance to the BA minor program, and the establishment of class committees is an important measure for the School to strengthen the program construction. This class meeting will fully promote democracy, and the elected class committee will play a role similar to "government" to provide public services to all students. He hoped that all students would actively cooperate with the class committee and the class committee would actively perform its "government" function to promote the development of the class.
This class meeting is an activity planned by the school's BA minor program, and setting up a class committee is an innovation. The formation of the class committee is not only conducive to promoting class construction and improving class cohesion, but also conducive to enhancing the students' identification with the school and promoting the integration of BA minor students from various departments into Tsinghua SPPM as soon as possible.
