On October 24th the Tsinghua SPPM Film Society held its second screening of the semester themed “An Ode to Hitchcock.” MID, IMPA and MPA students gathered in room 321 to enjoy Sir Alfred Hitchcock’s 1954 classic Rear Window in high definition. The film dealing with universal themes such as voyeurism, loneliness and community proved to be a big hit with the internationally diverse group of students, leaving them on the edge of their seats for the duration. The viewing was directly followed by discussion and film analysis in which society members were given a platform to share their thoughts and perspectives on the film. The lively dialogue proved to be an excellent complement to the viewing, and for some students, was the first time to appreciate cinema as an art form in this way.
The Tsinghua SPPM Film Society is now in its second semester. Rear Window was its second screening of the semester and the sixth overall. The society will screen four or five films a semester with the purpose of promoting both the interaction among different students and the interchange of ideas, culture and knowledge. All members and friends of the Tsinghua community are welcome to participate.
