On Jan 8th, 2014, or what is known as the laba Rice Porridge Festival in China, the IMPA students gathered together to make dumplings in celebration of the approaching Chinese New Year.
Under the instruction of the SPPM professors and staffs, students rolled up their sleeves and got hands full of flour at the joyful atmosphere of “dumpling party”. They first learned how to roll the bits of dough into wrappers, filled them with ingredients, and then fold the dough over and make pleats in the top of each dumpling. Afterwards, a variety of dumplings were displayed on the chopping board orderly.
Making dumplings is a custom in northern China in the Chinese New year. This activity made quite an impressive experience on IMPA students. “It’s a lot of fun to make dumpling, but it’s really difficult.” Several students expressed after their first trial of making dumplings.
The dumplings party is organized by the program office and supported by the Nan Yuan Canteen. The associate Dean, prof. PENG Zongchao, the associate Dean, professor MENG Bo and the IMPA class professor, prof. WANG Yahua also joined this party. It is a good event to help International students to have better understanding of Chinese traditional culture.
