PolicyNet Seminar Series #3 presented by Prof. CUI Zhiyuan of SPPM

The third PolicyNet Seminar series was held on the evening of March 18 in conference room 302 in SPPM. The topic of discussion was entitled ‘Is China’s Savings Glut Responsible for the US Financial Crisis?” and was presented by Professor CUI Zhiyuan from SPPM. Presiding over the event was the Director of the Brookings-Tsinghua Center, Professor Xiao Geng. The participation in the video seminar was the most extensive in the PolicyNet Seminar series with eight other universities from all over the world joining in the discussions.

Prof. Cui presented a rich multi-layered analysis of information on the role of China’s saving surplus in the United States and its impact on the current financial crisis. Prof. Xiao Geng also commented on the topic by giving his personal opinion based on his extensive Economics career in the US and China. The heated discussions attracted many questions from students and professors from Australia, Canada, France, Singapore, Japan and the Philippines on the causes of the global financial crisis.
