UN Resident Coordinator to China visited SPPM

On the afternoon of Nov. 13th, Mr. Alain W. NOUDEHOU, UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative to China visited the School of Public Policy and Management, Tsinghua University. Mr. Alain W. NOUDEHOU delivered a speech on the topic of “The role of social protection in addressing equality and promoting sustainable development in China”.
 

Mr. Alain W. NOUDEHOU firstly described income inequality statistics in China, APEC region and the world, then defined equality from outcomes and opportunities. He pointed out that both national and international data shows that inequality has reached worrying levels in many countries, and increasing evidence suggests that inequality is harmful to economic growth. He concluded with 3 pillars of UNDP framework for addressing inequalities at the end.
 

 
Prof. WANG Youqiang of SPPM moderated the lecture, and Associate Dean Meng Bo also attended the lecture along with around 30 students from and outside the school. The audience had heated discussion with Mr. Alain W. NOUDEHOU after the talk.
 

 
Alain W. NOUDEHOU is a national of Benin and he holds a Bachelor Degree in Architecture from Tsinghua University and a Master of Science Degree in Management and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University. On April 7, 2014, Mr. Noudéhou has taken up assignment as the UN Resident Coordinator, and UNDP Resident Representative in the People’s Republic of China.
