The SPPM 2015 Spring Commencement was held on Tuesday, January 27 in the auditorium of the school. Over 200 people witnessed the graduation of 125 graduates at this important and joyful event. Dean and Professor XUE Lan, Professor MENG Qinguo along with over 20 faculty members attended the ceremony, as well as 23 diplomats from 17 foreign embassies, guests from partner organizations, alumni and friends. Professor PENG Zongchao, Associate Dean, announced the results of graduation and degree conferrals for the 125 graduates who received various degrees, including 5 for Ph. D in Public Administration, 4 for Master of Management, 84 for Master of Public Administration (MPA), 1 for Master of Public Administration in International Development (MID), and 31 for International Master of Public Administration (IMPA). Besides, six students received Beijing Outstanding Graduates Award, and 12 students won SPPM Outstanding Thesis Award.

Afterwards, Mr. GONG Deqin from the MPA program, and Mr. Ryan Christopher Singh from the IMPA program spoke as graduate representatives about their life, study and achievements at Tsinghua. Mr. ZHANG Qing, a MPA alumnus, congratulated the graduates and advised them to shoulder responsibilities for the greater good of the public. As the ceremony was joined by many diplomats from various Embassies, H. E. Mr. Ambassador Abdulrahaman Amiri Shimbo offered remarks as an invited country to the IMPA program. After that, the advisors granted Tsinghua Outstanding Thesis Award certificates to the 12 graduates.

A special session of this year’s Commencement was the most recent collaboration between Medtronic and SPPM, who have jointly established the “Tsinghua Prize for Research Papers of Health Economics and Public Policy”and “Medtronics Overseas Study Scholarship” to support research and study in the field of public health policy. Dean XUE Lan and Mr. Chris Lee, President of Medtronic Greater China and Vice President of Medtronic, signed the agreement before the ceremony and exchanged the agreement to officially launce the program at the Commencement.

Finally, Dean XUE Lan delivered remarks to all the graduates, raising high expectations to their future work and life achievements.
