On February 23, the former chairman of the International Activities Committee of the Association of Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM), University of Maryland School of Public Policy, Professor Douglas Besharov and Professor M. Ramesh from University of Hong Kong attended a forum at SPPM hosted by SPPM Party Secretary Professor Wang Youqiang and 10 other professors. Representatives from APPAM discussed ways for the school to actively participate in APPM organized academic activities.

The APPM is an influential organization initially funded by the Sloan Foundation. The first APPAM research conference occurred in 1979 and the first issue of the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management appeared in 1981. Since then the organization has been committed to promoting public policy research in the field of public administration, analysis and education.
