4th Joint Tsinghua University and Harvard University Program for Senior Public Health Officials

On June 8, the Ministry of Health, and the joint Tsinghua University and Harvard University program for senior health officials held the fourth international high-level seminar on “China’s health development and reform” at SPPM. 25 senior public health officials from the Ministry of Health, the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Finance, Labor and Social Security Department, the State Food and Drug Administration, State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine as well as members from provincial and municipal health departments and bureaus will undergo joint training at Tsinghua University and Harvard School of Public Health over a 3 week period.
 
Yin Li, Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Health, Ren Minghui, President of the International Cooperation division, Xie Weihe, Vice-President of Tsinghua University attended the opening ceremony.
 
During the ceremony Yin Li addressed the need for China’s senior public health officials to adapt to the rapid changes and the need to deepen reform of China’s medical and health system. Such reforms will require much study and theoretical guidance and the Vice-Minister expressed hope that officials will gain new knowledge to assist in this crucial task.
 
Xie Weihe in his speech stressed the importance of theory in guiding real world practice. The Vice-President hoped that the participants will learn to connect theory with their working experience and strive to further develop China’s medical and health systems.
 
To date, the China Joint Tsinghua University and Harvard University program for senior public health officials program has been successfully completed three times since it began in 2005.
