The first class of IMPA students defended their theses on August 19^th, 2009.  The 35 students of the Class of 2008 come from seventeen countries across Africa and Asia.  Prior to enrolling in the one-year IMPA degree program, which is taught entirely in English, many have held positions in their respective government departments while others come from prestigious universities.

 

Tsinghua University's School of Public Policy and Management launched the IMPA program in 2008 under the direction of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Commerce.  The program is designed to better understand China's development process, to learn from its successes as well as its challenges.  The students combine public administrative theories with the knowledge of China's past and current development issues and practices in order to deepen their understanding of the problems facing countries in transition.  In enhancing cooperation and exchange among developing countries, the program aims to better prepare future leaders of the world.
